Amanda Anisimova Shares A Emotional 34-Word Message After Difficult Decision

American tennis player Amanda Anisimova has suffered yet another injury, which has forced her to end her 2026 season earlier than she would have liked. Consequently, she is likely to face a big drop in her rankings. The 25-year-old had withdrawn from the Singapore Open last week and later she also announced that she would not be able to defend her title at the China Open this week.

She last played a professional match at the US Open 2026 as she suffered a third-round defeat at the hands of Anastasia Potapova. The wrist injury she sustained earlier is more serious than she thought it was and it seems like she needs time to heal. It is also the primary reason why she had to end her 2026 campaign prematurely.

Sharing the news of her ending the 2026 season on Instagram, she wrote, “I will be wrapping up my season for the year. I sustained a wrist injury again that I need to take care of. Time to get healthy, reset, and see you all in 2027.”

Anisimova fell out of the top 10 WTA Rankings on the back of her early exit from the US Open and she is already guaranteed to further slide down the rankings after pulling out of the Singapore and China Open. She is already -5 in the live WTA rankings this week as she is dropping 1,000 points as the defending champion, and she could plummet further if those behind her perform well.

Wrapping Up 2026

Anisimova had an outstanding 2025 season. She won the Qatar Open, and China Open. She also had a tremendous run at Wimbledon as she finished the runner-up and later at the US Open. However, the 2026 season has been a tough follow-up for her.

She failed to reach the final in any of the tournaments, her best run came at the Dubai Tennis Championship in February where she reached the semi-final and the quarter finals of the Australian Open before losing early at Roland Garros, Wimbledon and US Open.

Ranking Slide

Anisomova started the year 2026 on a high as the world number 4 and later in the year she even climbed up the WTA Rankings and reached her career-best ranking of number 3. But eventually dropped several places down after she failed to defend her title in Qatar. Her inability to produce the same kind of form and performance at the Wimbledon, French Open and US Open as she did in her previous year she slipped to no 11 after the third-round exit from Flushing Meadows, which was her lowest since June 2025.

The last time she was ranked outside the top 20 was in February 2025, as she was sitting at no 41 before her title run in the Middle East.
