England Legends Back Harry Kane's Barcelona Transfer
Over the past few weeks, the news about the possible transfer of Harry Kane from Bayern Munich to Barcelona has attracted speculations from all corners. There have been a lot of talks floating around the world about the Bayern Munich striker’s arrival at the Camp Nou.
Consequently, the news of Harry Kane’s Barcelona move rumours have sparked a huge debate in England, where former players believe that Kane could only benefit from playing in a league that offers better global recognition for his achievements.
English legend, and former Manchester United defender, Gary Neville and ex-Real Madrid and Liverpool striker, Michael Owen have both voiced their opinions about the possibility of Kane’s transfer to Barcelona. Interestingly, they have a different and unique perspective on his future.
Gary Nevile Backs Harry Kane’s links to Barcelona
The aforementioned story gained more traction in England after former England player, Gary Neville admitted he could understand why the Spanish giants would consider pursuing the England football captain, Harry Kane.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville said that top clubs are always attracted to players that are capable of delivering consistency at the highest level. He further added, “I understand why Barcelona might want him. I can understand why any club in the world aspiring to win top-level trophies would want him in their ranks.”
The former England star also emphasised Kane’s importance as one of the most dependable goal scorers among the current set of players. “Kane is reliable, and in football, as in life, you want reliability. You want players who you know will live up to your expectations.
He does that, and he does it at the very highest level. He is an undisputed goal scorer and a key player for any team which, like Barca, aspires to win it all,” he said.
Michael Owen questions Kane’s move to Barcelona
While Gary Neville is all in support of Kane’s move to the Spanish club, another England legend, Michael Owen shifted attention towards Kane’s decision to join Bayern Munich in the first place.
A Ballon d’Or Winner, Owen believes that Bundesliga does not provide the right platform for a player like Harry Kane who is considered one of the best forwards to play for England ever. He argued that domestic success with Bayern Munich does not elevate Kane’s legacy because of the club’s dominance within Germany.
“My only complaint about Harry is his movie to Bayern. He deserves better than the Bundesliga. Winning Bundesliga titles with Bayern was never going to define his greatness because Bayern almost always wins their domestic league. If Bayern had won the Champions League, perhaps we would see it differently, but they haven’t and Kane needs something more in his career right now,” he stated.
