Footballer Andy Carroll Names Attacker as Dance Coach for TV Show

The former England striker tells the Sun he was sexually assaulted by former Fame Academy dance instructor Kevin Adams in 2021.

Former English football player Andy Carroll has reportedly told the Sun newspaper that the man who sexually assaulted him in 2021 was a TV dance coach and his name identified him as Kevin Adams. The 37-year-old former striker had first revealed that he had been sexually assaulted in his autobiography named ‘Owning It’ however did not name the attacker in his book, which was published last month.

Adams, who appeared on the BBC series Fame Academy from 2002, was given a custodial sentence for the assault in 2023, as per BBC news. He was found guilty following a trial in September of that year and he was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment by the Chelmsford Crown Court.

BBC news said Carroll had decided to reveal the name of his attacker Adams after he became aware that his name was already publicly available in court documents. Carroll had previously suggested that he was attacked while he was asleep by his former partner’s friend who had come to visit his home to watch a boxing match.

Carroll was playing for his boyhood club New Castle United at that time. He said he was being assaulted when he woke up and threw his attacker out of the house, before knocking him unconscious when he tried to return to his home.

In his autobiography, Carroll said he had spent a lot of time discussing whether to mention it in his book or not. Adding “I avoided my publisher for so long that they probably suspected I got cold feet.”

He wrote in his book, “Scary to talk about but it's made [me] the person I am today as much as any of the good stuff. And if talking about it helps just one person then good, it will have been worth it.” Adams has made many TV appearances as a dancer and dance instructor from the late 1990s onwards.

However, he has not made any public comment since Carroll has named him as the man who attacked him.
