Iga Swiatek Calls Cincinnati Open Turnaround ‘Crazy’ After Canadian Open Win

Former world number one tennis player, Iga Swiatek claimed her first title win under the new coach Francisco Roig at the Canadian Open and she has quickly turned all her attention and focus towards the Cincinnati Open.
The player from Poland defeated Elena Rybakina in the Canadian Open final after having a terrific campaign, which included victories against Diana Shnaider, Marta Kostyuk and Elina Svitolina.
The Pole arrived in Cincinnati, just one day after lifting the title in Canada, and she addressed the quick turnaround in her press conference at the Masters event. Speaking to the press, she said, “It’s fast, my last press conference was less than 12 years ago” before suggesting that he has already looked past her win in Canada.
Swiatek who is currently ranked at world number 9, further added, “actually, it's only after Grand Slams that you can really enjoy it, because generally everyone takes a break after. Here, it’s crazy. It’s not even 24 hours even since I won a tournament and I am in another country talking to you, preparing for another tournament. I had time to resent everything and find freshness, try new things.”
Before her win in Canada, earlier in the year, Swiatek had bowed out of the Wimbledon in the fourth round, and she believes that the time she took off after the grass season helped her reflect on her game and win the Masters tournament.
“We had a good two weeks before arriving in Toronto and that was the key to the final result. I found patience in my game and it paid off.” She further added. When asked about how she will find a balance at the Cincinnati open, she quipped, “We will see. There is no instruction manual to follow. I rely on my team, they know what is best for me. But it is certain that in the coming days, I will prioritise recovery. And I won't pick up the racket until tomorrow. But we will go day by day.”
Swiatek has won the Cincinnati open last year and she will be defending her title as well as the full 1000 points at the Masters event. As a result, she may potentially drop out of the WTA top 10 if she has a disappointing run at the North American tournament.
