India vs Sri Lanka Test Series: Jasprit Bumrah Ruled Out With Knee Injury

India’s premier fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah is set to miss the entire test series against Sri Lanka starting in a couple of weeks on Aug 15, 2026. According to a report from Times of India, the seamer continues to feel discomfort in his left knee after he underwent an initial assessment at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE).

The team management has decided that it is not safe to rush him back to competitive cricket and advised him to recover fully. As per an earlier report this week, the BCCI-appointed medical team assessed Bumrah’s conditions and had recommended him to get an injection for his knee injury that has flared up during the fag end of the T20 World Cup.

The 32-year old was given the injection as per the decided schedule last month but he failed to recover completely, and it seems that he may need a longer time than initially expected to get fully fit and be available for selection. There were discussions earlier about getting him ready for the second test match of the series against Sri Lanka but the medical team at the CoE now does not want to take any unnecessary risk and push his recovery process.

The plan now is to wait longer and he is exempted from gathering in Mumbai on August 3 with the rest of the squad to depart for the emerald island on Aug 4, 2026. A well-placed source within the team management said, “there have been instances in the past where players have been rushed back to cricket, and have broken down. You can't take that risk again, especially with Bumrah. So complete recovery is the only goal and there is a lot of cricket left in this year. There are Asian Games, the tour of New Zealand and even the Border-Gavaskar Trophy early next year.”
