Jannik Sinner Ruled Out for Rest of 2026 Season with Knee Injury

World number one Jannik Sinner will not play again in 2026 because of an ongoing right knee injury.
World number one men’s tennis player, Jannik Sinner has confirmed that he will not play again in the 2026 season because of the injury to his right knee. The tall Italian has not appeared on court since he successfully defended his Wimbledon title in July earlier this year.
The five-time Grand Slam champion, Sinner said, he has to think about the long-term goal while deciding to end his season earlier than expected. In an Instagram video, he said, “Me and my doctors have decided that I need a course of treatment for my knee. The last couple of years gave me so many beautiful feelings and emotions, which this year is going to be way different. I will do everything possible to get back 100%”
Sinner dominated the tennis course for most of the season in 2026, winning 44 and losing just three matches. He won five Masters 1000 titles in a row between March and May and became the youngest player to complete the ‘career Golden Masters.’
With injury to Sinner that will keep him out of action for the rest of the year, Alexander Zverev, who won the French Open and the US Open this year, now trails Sinner by just 1280 points in the live rankings. However, Sinner will be unable to defend the points he claimed by winning the titles in China, Paris and Vienna last year.
The Italian no 1, won six titles in 2016 on all three surfaces and lost just one singles match between March and July. He reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open, losing in a five-set marathon match to the former world number one Novak Djokovic. But suffered a shocking defeat in round 2 of the French Open in May earlier this year, which also ended his 30-match winning streak.
Sinner, however, bounced back in a stunning fashion at the Wimbledon and defended his title successfully despite bleeding through his shoes at one point. He beat Zevrev in the finals at the showpiece event and retained his Championship that he won in 2025.
