Jos Buttler Becomes First Player to Reach Major T20 Milestone Against Sri Lanka

England triumphed against Sri Lanka in the second T20I of the three-match series by a margin of six wickets to seal the series one match still to play. Although Liam Dawson was the star of the show with the ball, Tom Banton shined with the bat but it was the former England skipper Jos Butler who was at the centre of attention. His quick-fire knock of 30 runs off 16 balls at the top gave England the start they wanted during their chase.

With this innings, Butler managed to break a massive record and achieve a feat no one has ever achieved before in the history of T20 cricket. The English wicket-keeper now has exactly 15,000 runs across T20 matches, becoming the first player ever to achieve this incredible landmark in the shortest format of the game.

Butler has now overtaken the West Indian great and a T20 specialist Kieron Pollard to become the highest run getter in T20 format. The big-hitting all rounder from the West Indies had scored 14,999 runs in T20s. Also, Butler has managed to reach the 15,000 mark in just 528 matches, Pollard took 742 games.

Banton, Dawson Star As England Defeat Sri Lanka by Six Wickets

Coming into the second game on the back of an easy win in the First T20I, England won the toss and opted to put Sri Lanka into bat first. The Lankan openers gave their team a blistering start, and the opening duo of Pathum Nissanka and Lahiru Udara put together a partnership of 56 runs.

However, the Lankan Lions never got going after that, as the wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals and the English bowlers kept them under a tight leash throughout the innings. Sri Lanka eventually ended their innings with a score of 145 for 9 at the end of 20 overs. For Sri Lanka, Nissanka top-scored with 37. On the other hand, Liam Dawson stole the show with the ball, as he picked up three wickets giving just 32 runs.

Jamie Overton, and Jofra Archer also provided good support to Dawson, and they both bagged two wickets each. During the chase, England came in all guns blazing right from the get go, and they closed the match with supreme ease in more than seven overs to spare and six wickets in hand. Tom Banton was the star with the bat, he scored 52 off just 24 balls.
