Josh Hazlewood makes Australian Test history, joins elite club with 300th w...

Australian fast bowler, Josh Hazlewood has reached a major milestone in his Test career by becoming only the ninth Aussie to claim 300 wickets in the longest format during the ongoing first test match against Bangladesh in Darwin.

The Aussie speedster reached the landmark on his way to complete a 14th five-wicket haul in Tests, adding his name to an exclusive and elite list that includes his fellow teammates Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon.

Hazelwood’s accomplishment also created another significant first for Australian cricket. The team now has four bowlers in their current player group who have taken at least 300 wickets. No other test team in the world has had four such bowlers playing togher after all of them completed the milestone.

The 34-year-old Aussie reached the milestone while maintaining an incredible career average of 24.02. According to Crickinfo, amongst all the Aussie bowlers that have taken 300 test wickets, only three other bowlers have better average than him; Glenn McGrath (21.64), Pat Cummins (22.21) and Dennis Lilliee (23.92).

Hazlewood took all four Bangladeshi wickets that fell after lunch on Day 3 of the test match and he eventually finished with six wickets in the first innings. After dismissing Mehdi Hasan MIraz to break the stubborn resistance by Bangladeshi batters, he quickly removed Ebadot Hossain to complete his 300th Test wicket and 14th five-wicket haul.

Bangladesh put up a strong batting performance in their first inning and put on a huge score of 426 runs, which gave them a lead of 228 runs over Australia. The visitors innings was largely centred around the maiden test century by Tanzid Hasan. Captain Najmul Shanto and Mehidy also contributed with both of the scoring 50s.

Australia were not quite the best as they are known in the field as they dropped five catches, allowing the Bangladeshi lower order to put on some valuable runs on the board. It has helped Bangladesh to be in a commanding position despite arriving in Darwin with a heavy defeat to Cricket Australia XI in their tour game.
