Juventus Agree Guglielmo Vicario Loan Deal With Tottenham After Ending Emiliano Martinez Pursuit

As per the Press Association report, Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to sign a deal with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, allowing him to join Juventus on a season-long loan. Throughout the summer, Vicario was left uncertain about his future at the club after he had required the Spurs manager, Roberto De Zerbi to allow him to return to his homeland, after he had spent three with the north London club.

Juventus was Vicario’s first choice team to make a move back to Italy although the Serie A team initially pursued Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa before turning their attention to Zion Suzuki from Parma.

After all the fast-paced developments across the weekend, the Italian club initiated negotiations with Tottenham on Sunday and almost immediately completed a season-long loan deal with an option to purchase the Italy international. De Zerbi approved Vicario’s move after the young goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky came forward to help the club clear of relegation with a series of impressive performances in the last seven matches of last season.

There were chances of Vicario potentially making a move to Inter Milan from the Spurs but, the reigning Italians champions eventually decided to go in a different direction with regards to their goalkeeping position. This decision left Vicario available for Juventus although their manager Luciano Spalletti was initially keen to bring on board Argentina’s world cup winner Martinez before his talks with Villa didn't go as planned over the valuation gap in his final fee.

After the failed talks with Villa for Martinez, Juventus next turned their attention towards Suzuki from Parma, and even went after PSG tried to seal the deal for the young Japanese goalkeeper. And although Suzuki’s move to PSG fell apart, Juventus accelerated their pursuit of Italy’s number two stopper Vicario and now they are poised to secure the services of the 29-year-old and he may be available to appear for the side in the Sunday’s league opener at Frosinone.
