Kohli's Recovery Mission Gains Pace Before England Tour

Kohli's Recovery Mission Gains Pace Before England Tour

Virat Kohli is on track to make his India return for the July ODI series against England after making significant progress on his hamstring injury rehabilitation.

Key Takeaways:

  • Virat Kohli is on course to make his comeback to the Indian team after his recovery from hamstring injury gains pace.
  • The BCCI selection committee to meet within the next three to four days to pick the ODI squad for India’s tour to England.
  • Kohli last played an International ODI match in January 2026 against New Zealand.

King Kohli appears to be on track to make his comeback to international cricket in the Indian colours for the upcoming ODI series in England as reports claim that his hamstring injury is healing faster than expected.

As per a report by The Times of India, Virat Kohli has already started his rehabilitation programme and is due to report to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence shortly for his fitness assessment, which will determine his place in the Indian side. If everything goes to plan, the star batter is expected to make a comeback to the Indian team for the England tour.

The secretary of BCCI, Devajit Sakia said that the selection committee meeting will take place in the next three to four days to pick the squad for the ODI series against England.

Ajit Agarkar: Virat Kohli’s comeback to the Indian team for England series is very much possible

Virat was sidelined for the ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan at the home soil due to a hamstring injury. The stylish lefthander, Yashashvi Jaiwasl took his place at the top of the order.

Following his injury, King Kohli has been working closely with Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwalla, one of the most respectable orthopedic surgeons in India and based at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, who is also serving as the BCCI’s consultant orthopaedic surgeon.

The Chief Selector of India, Ajit Agarkar, had earlier hinted the possibility of Virat Kohli’s comeback to team India while announcing the squad for India’s home series against Afghanistan in Mumbai on June 6.

At the time, he noted that there is no specific timeline given by the team’s physio but mentioned that Kohli may get match fit before the team is announced for the England tour. He further added, “With Virat, it's just less than a week since he injured himself in the IPL final. We don't know the timelines yet. But it looks like he might be fit for that England one-day series. It is not a definitive answer, so don’t hold me to it. I am yet to get a clear from the team’s physio.”

Virat’s recent form in one-day international matches

After stepping from the T20 international matches and Test cricket, Virat Kohli is now dedicated to playing only the 50-over format. His recent outing in Indian colours came during the home series against the Kiwis in January, where he emerged as India’s top scorer with 240 runs at an incredible average of over 80 and a strike rate of 105+.

If he continues to carry that rich form into England, it would give team India a major boost as they have a busy season ahead.
