Roston Chase Urges West Indies to Stay Focused Ahead of Port of Spain Test

West Indian skipper, Roston Chase has urged his teammates to avoid getting complacent ahead of the crucial second and last Test match of the series against Pakistan, which starts on Sunday at Port-of-Spain. The Caribbean has already taken a 1-0 lead in the series after they beat their Asian rivals by 90 runs, thanks to some all round brilliance from both their batters and bowlers.

West Indies have been enjoying a fantastic last few weeks at home after they beat Sri Lanka 1-0 earlier last month in a two-match series. Chase is keen to add another series win and make it two out of two. He said he does not want any complacency in the squad. His words are a reflection of the mood in the West Indies camp and that they are determined to register a win and get back to winning ways and dominate their opposition that they once were known for, especially in the longest format of the game.

“At the end of last year, where we won and lost eight, we sat down with the plan and said that this is where we want to be. And as I said, we are exactly where we want to be. We want to level up,” Chase told the reporters at Queen’s Park Oval.

He further added, “we want to just come into the second test, not take anything for granted, just go through the processes that we have sat down and talked about. We want to come and execute them to the best of our ability. And look to get that second victory,”

Chase has a simple plan for his team - Just don’t lose at home. In the ongoing WTC (World Test Championship) cycle, the Caribbean team is second from last at 8th position and Pakistan is last at 9th position, following their loss in the first test at Trinidad. Chase believes that if they take full advantage of the home conditions against the visitors, that will be a huge step towards becoming one of the top test sides in the world.

“We are blessed and happy for the results that we have been having so far at home. But I want to make home our fortress, where we make it very difficult for the teams to come to the Caribbean and beat us. Because it’s our own conditions, we know them inside out, and better than the opposition. So, I think we want to really make home advantage count, and we have been doing that well so far. So, as I said, we are lucky to continue in the vein of form that we have been in and take victory in the second test,” Chase concluded.
