Smriti Mandhana Makes History as Leading Run-Scorer in Women’s Cricket

Indian women cricket vice-captain, Smrithi Mandhana has created history by becoming the all-time leading run-scorer in Women International cricket as she scored her second century in the Women’s Asia Cup.

The prolific Indian left-hander played a blazing innings, scoring 124 runs off just 64 deliveries in a game where India thrashed the minnows Hong Kong in their second Group A match in Dubai. The 30-year-old, Mandhana now has amassed 10,880 runs across formats, overtaking the former Indian captain, Mithali Raj’s 10,868.

Speaking to the press, after the game against Hong Kong, the southpaw said, “Until I was batting, I didn't know what record because I didn't know what exact runs I had scored. But looking back, I would say it was a very good day for Indian cricket.”

In the game, India posted a massive total of 195 for 5 in their allocated 20 overs, before coming back strongly and bowling out their opponents for a partly 56 runs in 16.2 overs. About her innings, Mandhana said, “Raj is a legend and a role model,” and that going past her record was something she never imagined doing.

Raj said on X, “I've watched you grow from a young player into one of the finest batters India has produced. To see you go past my record and become the highest run-scorer in International cricket is a moment I am genuinely proud of. Here’s to many more runs and milestones. Keep going!”

Mandhana’s century was her overall 18th ton in all formats, taking her past the former Australian skipper and legend, Meg Lanning’s record of scoring more hundreds in women’s international cricket.

With the win against Hong Kong, India now are at the top of the table in Group A and they are all set to face their arch-rivals Pakistan in a thrilling encounter at the same venue on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
