The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, couldn’t stop himself gushing over the England football captain, Harry Kane in a touching post on Truth social after he led his team to a historic 3-2 win over Mexico in the Round of 16 match at the World Cup 2026.

“Harry Kane is a GREAT player!!!” President Trump wrote on Truth Social, just a few hours after the England captain led his team to victory in Mexico City's Azteca Stadium. Following the win, England booked their spot in the World Cup quarter finals and knocked the co-hosts out of the tournament despite being one man down.

During the match, Real Madrid’s young star, Jude Bellingham scored two goals for England and the Penalty from Kane sealed the deal. It was enough for them to make their way to Miami where they will face Norway in the World Cup quarterfinals on Saturday.

England’s victory over the co-hosts, Mexico, was far from straightforward. Before this match, Mexico had never lost a game at Azteca since 2013. Just a few minutes into the second half of the match, England’s right back Jarell Quansah was shown a red card, reducing England to 10 men.

Harry Kane restored England’s two goal advantage when he scored off a penalty that was won by one of Barcelona’s recent signings, Anthony Gordon. He was through on goal when he was brought down by the Mexican goalkeeper Raul Rangel.

Mexico put up a spirited performance and showed no signs of succumbing to the mounting pressure and reduced England’s deficit once again when Raul Jimenez converted a penalty that was conceded by Kane.

Mexico continued to press forward and England’s coach Thomas Tuchel, a Champion League winner himself with Chelsea, responded by bringing on the Newcastle defender Dan Burn who stands at six-feet seven inches onto the field.
