US Open Mixed Doubles: Muchova and Mensik Win Thrilling Final

The Czech pair beat Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli in a 10-point match tiebreak

Karolina Muchova and Jakuk Mensik, the Czech pair beat the Swiss-Italian pair of Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 1-6, 10-6 in a thrilling final to win the US Open 2026 and claim their first mixed doubles Grand Slam title as a pair.

The Czech pair got off to a great start at the Arthur Ashe Stadium and won the first set quite easily, with the hard-serving Mensik dishing out an unplayable ace past Bencic on set point. The first set was completed in less than 30 minutes and it seemed like the pair would seal the deal in the second set.

But, Bencic and Cobolli made a stunning comeback in the second set and made it one set a piece, taking the match to the third and final set. The Swiss-Italian hit plenty of winners in the second set, and broke the Czech pair in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead, and later Bencic drilled a forehand that brushed the net and skipped beyond Muchova to level the match.

In the third and deciding set, the match went on to a tiebreak. Mensik continued his big serving streak in the final set and his sharp play at the net helped him and his teammate be at the driver’s seat in the final set. The 20-year-old Mensik played a smart volley to open up a massive 8-4 lead for the Czech pair before Muchova produced her best serve of the match to bring up six championship points.

Mensik sealed the win with another big ace, and couldn’t stop himself from leaping in celebration. The win was the first trophy for the pair. Muchova and Mensik had earlier survived a tense match and had to work hard to save two match points against the all-Russian pair of Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev in their semi-final match to book a place in the last tie.

Speaking after the match, Muchova said, “I think in the end the matching outfits made all the difference for us.” The Muchova-Mensik duo sported matching maroon jackets during the trophy ceremony. She further added, “I wasn’t really expected to be standing here tonight. We came out just to have fun and enjoy these mixed doubles and now we are standing here. So we did something right. I think this is a really good start to the US Open for all of us.”

The US Open 2026 mixed doubles draw featured 16 teams and it began on Tuesday as per the tournament’s revamped format, which features leading singles players and is aimed at drawing bigger crowds in the week before the main singles draw begins.

Among the other star-studded mixed doubles teams that participated in the event were - Novak Djokovic and Aryana Sabalenka, Carlos Alcaraz and Serena Williams to name a few.
