Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Makes History with World Record at Age 15

After becoming the youngest cricket player ever to play an international match for India, surpassing the great Sachin Tendulkar, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi added another milestone to his international career; he became the youngest player to win a Player of the Series in men’s international cricket.

The 15-year-old batting sensation achieved this feat after playing an important role to help India defeat 3-0 in the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. Opening the batting for team India, Sooryavanshi emerged as the leading run-scorer for team India with 151 runs in three innings, including a match-winning knock of 81 from 49 balls in the third T20I.

The young left-hander showed great adaptability throughout the series. After a bad start to his T20I career in England, he announced himself scoring a quickfire 50 in just 18 deliveries in the opening match of the series. He played a more mature innings in the final match on a rather sluggish pitch that was difficult for batting. His innings of 81 included eight fours and four sixes that powered India to a massive total of 192 for 5.

His consistency with the bat in all three matches earned him the Player of the Series award, and he became the youngest player to get the honour in men’s international cricket. Speaking about the award after the presentation ceremony was over, Sooryavanshi credited his preparation for the success.

He said, “I try to replicate what I do in the training sessions. I had good preparation time after the England tour and I am glad to score these runs for the team, and contribute to the series victory. It was my dream to do it for India.”

Even after a poor start to his international career in England, Indian management continued to show faith in his abilities and backed him. The management persisted with him for the Zimbabwe tour and he repaid their faith fully with a brilliant display of his batting talent. He dominated at the Harare Sports Club, the same venue where had already made headlines earlier this year for scoring a brilliant 175 runs off 80 balls against England in the Under-19 World Cup Final.

His latest achievement in Zimbabwe has firmly underlined his rapid rise in international cricket and his reputation as one of the brightest emerging stars in the world.
