Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Reacts After Receiving India Jersey: 'Words Can't Describe the Feeling'

The newest wonderboy of Indian cricket, a teenage sensation that has taken the world by storm, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi received his India jersey as he is included in that T20 squad for the India tour of England. He described the feeling of getting his jersey as fulfilment of a lifelong dream.

In a heart-warming video shared by the BCCI on X, the 15-year-old prodigy struggled to express his feelings and put his emotions into words as he looked back on his journey from practicing at the local grounds to earning a call up in the Indian National team.

“I mean, words cannot explain it. The reason I picked up a bat from day one and went to the cricket ground for practice, today that dream was fulfilled and the biggest step in that journey was completed today. I truly cannot put this feeling to words, said Sooryavashi.”

The young batter also revealed that the moment he saw his name on the India jersey, it all felt surreal. He added, “It felt just like a dream. The moment I saw that T-shirt, I couldn’t stop smiling. Sometimes, something happens that you never even imagined could happen, and when it finally does, you don’t know how to react. That was exactly how I felt.”

Sooryavanshi’s emotional milestone comes days after his name was included in India's T20I squad for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England. He also earned his place in the team for the Asian Games to be held in Japan later this year, starting from September 19.

With his maiden call up to the Indian team, the young boy from Bihar became the youngest player ever to be selected to represent India at the highest level, breaking the long-standing record held by the great Sachin Tendulkar, who had made his debut for India at the age of 16 years against arch-rivals, Pakistan in 1989.

The teenager’s selection has backed some extraordinary performances, especially in the recently concluded IPL and the tri-series final finals between India A and Sri Lanka, where he smashed 94 runs off just 29 deliveries.

In the process of his swashbucking innings, he hammered the fastest 50 in List A cricket history, he reached the milestone in just 11 balls, surpassing the previous record of 12-ball fifty held by Kaushalya Weeraratne from Sri Lanka.

His stunning knock was the latest highlight in his breakthrough career so far that has seen the young superstar emerge as one of the brightest young prospects of Indian cricket. He finished the IPL as the highest run-getter of the tournament, earning him the Orange cap. And, throughout the tournament, he also rewrote several records, including hitting a total of 72 sixes.

With India all set to begin its overseas white-ball season against Ireland and England in the coming weeks, there is a huge expectation around the teenage phenomenon to perform well at the highest level and continue to soar up the success ladder.

For now, Sooryavanshi is just revelling in the moment that he had always dreamt of; wearing the Indian jersey and taking the next step in what is shaping up to be an extraordinary cricketing journey.
